Sovereign Hill
Experience the Gold Rush Era!

Sovereign Hill is an open-air museum located in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, that vividly recreates the life and culture of the 1850s Gold Rush era. Here, visitors can experience a variety of facilities such as shops, hotels, theaters, schools, factories, and gold mines from that era, with staff dressed in Victorian costumes interacting with visitors as if traveling back in time.

The Goldfield area is Australia's premier gold mining area, home to historic towns, architecture, and a history of gold mining. Over 150 years ago, when gold was discovered in central Victoria, many large hotels and public buildings, historic gardens and houses, charming shops lined the main streets of Ballarat and Bendigo, and miners' quarters were established in residential areas such as Maldon, Castlemaine, and Stawell, with their history and traces still preserved in various forms today.

In particular, Ballarat is Victoria's largest inland city, formed based on the wealth of the Gold Rush era, and is famous for its themed tourist spot, Sovereign Hill, which faithfully recreates the gold mining village of the Gold Rush era. It's also a good idea to set aside your gold mining experience for a moment and savor the flavors of the famous pie hometown at a stylish local café or restaurant. This region, famous for its traditional pies, is also home to renowned bakers, pastry chefs, and pie shops.
